Project 20|20 – Week 6: 30-Day Challenge

The first 30 days of 2020 are gone, and we are now in February!

Many times, we lose the momentum and the new year’s energy, as we get dragged into the daily routine. That’s why I want to use this week’s blog to imagine how we want to evolve in the next few months.

If you have not done yet, write down your goals for this year. Today. It’s never too late to build a better version of ourselves and expand our potential.

Start planning how you will reach your objectives by creating an action plan that describes what, by when, and how. You can use the templates I created in the previous blogs to help you structure your thoughts.

Some people say their intentions out loud in front of a mirror every morning. It seems to be an effective way to commit and remind themselves of what they want.

No matter what your approach is, start moving forward towards the direction you want. Find a buddy to support you, ask the help of a family member, use social media as an incentive. Find out what works best to motivate you.

But, What if …

  1. You are not sure how to set goals in the first place?
  2. You have tried it before, and it did not work.
  3. You have so much on your plate now and cannot think about anything else.

I hear you, you are not alone. Defining goals that are aligned with our life purpose is not an easy task, mostly when we are dealing with personal challenges. Actually, defining our life purpose can be our exercise for months, if not years.

Nevertheless, visualizing something simpler, a reachable finish line, of something we want to achieve, is like setting up our north star. It’s a guideline that can help us tune up our everyday choices and focus on what really matters. It gives us a sense of fulfillment,  joy, and energy to move forward.

When we know what we want to achieve, our laundry list of to-do things can be easily prioritized. Our activities get trimmed down, and we feel motivated by making small bits of progress.

Visualizing the prize at the end of the line helps us continue to navigate through the challenges, regardless of how hard they are.

We all have a terrific potential inside ourselves, talents to be explored, and developed. Skills that can make us fill happier and accomplished. So, if you are having trouble moving ahead, I am going to suggest 3 simple steps:

1- Pick Just One Goal

Focus. Focus. Focus. Choose one thing that really matters to you. Remind yourself WHY you are doing it, what the benefit is for your wellbeing.

2- Set a Timeline and Stick With It!

Choose a goal that can be achieved in the short term, let’s say the next 30 days. Use the SMART goals framework and target something that is not only achievable in the short term, but also measurable. Create a reward for you to celebrate each milestone, each day you make progress. Own your success, and move forward!

3- Share Your Journey

Commit to yourself and track your improvement by using a journal, or leverage the printable template I provided below.

Invite a friend or a family member to join the challenge with you, and celebrate the achievements together. Share it with me, and other social media friends so we can cheer for you as well!
