National Pet Day

National Pet Day

I love my dog. Cooper is always by my side. Rain or shine. Sweet and cuddly, he is the best buddy in the world. I’m telling you this because today is National Pet Day!

Our furry friends become family members, and it is not by chance:

Animals play an essential role in many people’s lives. In addition to seeing-eye dogs and dogs that can be trained to detect seizures, animals can also be used in occupational therapy, speech therapy, or physical rehabilitation to help patients recover. Aside from these designated therapeutic roles, animals are also fantastic companions, which affects the quality of our lives because:

1 Companion animals may improve heart health by lowering blood pressure and regulating the heart rate during stressful situations.

2 Children’s exposure to companion animals ease their anxiety.

3 Findings suggest that a pet’s social support can make a person feel more relaxed and decrease stress.

4 Among elderly people, pet ownership might also be an essential source of social support that enhances well-being.

5 Having a dog might not influence or might protect against specific dog allergies.

6 When a child has no brothers or sisters, research shows that pets help children develop greater empathy, higher self-esteem, and increased participation in social and physical activities.

These are all results of scientific research. Want to read all the evidence? Check and tell me, what is the name of your pet?
